Labour has retreated...

...on this compulsory ID card idea because it would show just how many illegal immigrants there are in Britain.
ID cards are a great idea, all our data is on some computer somewhere anyway, so why not have an official ID that we can show to our Bank to open an account, our Doctor when we need medical care, the Hospital wen we need an operation, and the Schools when we want our children educated. Most of us carry a driving licence anyway, so another card won't make much difference and will allow the Government to know which area need more funds for Hospitals, Schools, Housing etc etc.
