24 hour drinking?
Published: Tuesday July 24,2007 by A_Realist
What is this 24 hour drinking we are told the government introduced? You can actually drink for 24 hours as long as someone is open for 1 hour a day for you to stock up. In America more booze was drunk during prohibition tha at any other time. The reality is we still have pubs open for less hours than anywehre in Europe. Over 90% of pubs open at 12 and shut by 12.30 which is 12 and half hours, compared to the continent where you can get a drink from 8 am and bars are open until 2, 3 and 4 am and even later. And they don't have the problems we have. Funnily enough the only ones that do are others where drinking is curtailed like norway and Sween. The obvious answer would be to make sure that the cheap booze in supermarkets was made more expensive to stop youngsters getting plastered before they even go out, or to stop people drinking themselves into a stupor in their homes but, oh no, we have talk of increasing the price across the board making a social drink in a pub even more expensive. Do all the people who natter on about having pubs closed by 11pm like the "good old days" think everyone works 9-5 or do they think shift workers shouldn't have some sort of social life as long as they are alright? When you here about it affecting the lives of people I must say I've never noticed British people abroad all returning to their hotels at 11pm as that was late enough and they didn't want to disturb the locals. Why do some people want to turn this into the most miserable, drab country that you could imagine?
