IS GORDON BROWN REALLY THAT BAD?

Friday July 25,2008

By Westminster Whirlwind

Is Gordon Brown really that bad?

GORDON BROWN: Not all bad?

POOR OLD Gordon. If he is not bumping his head on aircraft, stumbling over his words or being photographed looking awkward, then he is loosing by-elections. But is he really that bad?

I met the Prime Minister for the first time this week at his summer party for the political lobby in the back garden of 10 Downing Street.

Being lead around by Damian McBride, who was making sure that the poor love was not caught on a one-to-one basis with any trouble seeking hacks and with his wife Sarah by his side, the Prime Minister addressed small groups of gossip-hungry hacks six at a time.

Having just dealt with a ‘climate change’ enthusiast super glue himself to his jacket at a previous reception as a means of protest, Gordon appeared in good spirits even if he was longing to get the evening over and done with.

Making small talk over holiday plans the Prime Minster looked surprisingly well and far than they greyish figure than I often witness at Prime Ministers Questions.

Taken back by this I found myself staring, trying to work out just how must he be feeling knowing that his back garden was full of people set on bringing him down.

As time ticked by, I became aware I needed to be somewhere else. So having drunk his wine, expl

I'LL TELL YOU WHY I'M SO BLOODY MISERABLE...

Friday June 20,2008

By Westminster Whirlwind

I'll tell you why I'm so bloody miserable...

HERE'S a pondering question - why oh why are we all so miserable?

Errr, does it really take a brain surgeon to work this one out?

This week, Junior transport minister, Tom Harris, found himself in the media spotlight after he advised hard-pressed families struggling with the credit crunch to cheer up and stop being so "bloody miserable".

That's rich (excuse the pun) from a man on a £90,000 plus salary.

Now I am not a brain surgeon (no sarcastic comments on that please)  but a couple of things are making me miserable and it is namely the lack on money in my purse and bank account. Could this be something to do with this as to why we are all so bloody miserable?

Has Mr Harris perhaps overlooked the rising cost of living or the fact we don't actually feel safe on our streets? How about the rise in inflation? Stealth taxes? The lack of NHS dentists, doctors? Prescription prices? The price of basics like milk and bread? That Big Brother is back on the box or even the subjection to Alistair Darling's e

DAVIS LEAVES BROWN JUMPING FOR JOY...

Friday June 13,2008

Davis leaves Brown jumping for joy...

David Davis has thrown the Prime Minister a lifeline

WELL it's true - a week is a long time in politics.

At the beginning of the week it was looking like Gordon Brown's only option was only to start re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

What with the present economic climate casting an eerie shadow and the contentious vote over 42 days this week, the outlook for GB was not so sunny.

But who parachutes to the rescue - none other than Tory Action Man David Davis.

Though surely Friday 13th would have been a far better media ploy.

Gordon Brown must be jumping for joy - look out for David on the peerage list pretty soon!

I USED to work for David Davis as his researcher but I can't understand the logic behind his resignation. If the Lib Dems are not to put up a candidate then who will he be standing against in a by-election and won't it all cost us money?

I can think of a number of different reasons why he may have done this but I would like to think that it is down to pure political passion and a general feeling of dismay over the 42 days legislation.

THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING

Friday May 30,2008

By Westminster Whirlwind

The times they are a changing

Thatcher is back in Vogue

APOLOGIES for the lack of gossip and postings of late.

I've been very busy spinning around, creating a storm with the "toff's" and class war in Crewe & Nantwich during the by-election - and what result!

And what a palaver. Countless column inches devoted to the re-emergence of the Conservative Party and Brown's downfall.

But yes, indeed, it does look like the winds could be changing in the political void.

But hold on, it could still be two years before any real changes occur and we get a general election.

You'd think after 11 years biding his time GB is going to give up the keys to Number 10. that easily?

We all need to calm down slightly.

A poll in the Daily Telegraph this week puts David Cameron forward as the best candidate for prime ministe

DON'T UNDERESTIMATE BORIS THE CLOWN...

Saturday March 29,2008

Don't underestimate Boris the Clown...

Boris: Better than he looks

The other week I spent the morning with Conservative London Mayor Candidate Boris Johnson on a run round of London's Borough market as part of his campaign.

Like something out of a Benny Hill chase, I noticed not one person had anything negative to say against the ol'chap and instead everyone wanted to shake his hand and wish him well.

Now, most people know Boris from either his time as editor at the Speccie, newspaper journalist, panelist on Have I Got News For You or as MP for Henley and do not stand back at offering their opinion on the man.

Many regard him as 'bumbling' and silly - but the reality is this is far from the truth.

Although he is not innocent of past controversies (which I won't go into) he does though have a heart of gold and is generally interested in people and how to make things better. When he first launched his campaign for London, I was dubious and hesitant about how this would be perceived and whether he was the right man for the job.

I've known Boris since I was 18 and working at
